Implications of compromised gut health
Research suggests that our gut health may have a huge impact on the rest of our health, so it will come as no surprise that it can affect many different areas within our body. Some common areas that may be compromised are immune function such as frequent infections, digestive symptoms such as bloating, indigestion, constipation and weight gain. Low mood, brain fog and headaches could also be associated with the diversity of our microbiome.
These symptoms are often managed with over the counter drugs, which may help ease the symptoms but rarely get to the root of the problem.

If appropriate a comprehensive stool analysis test (tests incur additional costs) is available. This test looks at the following markers: Digestion/absorption, inflammation/Immunology, gut microbiome diversity and parasitiology. This test may be useful for revealing information about the root cause of gastrointestinal symptoms such as bloating, indigestion, constipation, the test utilises biomarkers such as Calprotectin to differentiate between Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
